Make plays off the wall!
Make plays off the wall!
One skill I work on a ton with my players is picking pucks up off the wall.
In this #drill I have the 1st skater come down the wall to receive a rimmed puck.
I’m instructing them to immediately “escape” or turn towards the wall as they’re gaining possession.
Once they have the puck under control, they’re to get their head up and find the next guy in line, high in the slot, going to the net.
This could be a direct pass but this morning’s setup included a stick nearby, forcing the 1st skater to lay a soft #saucerpass to the next guy in line—a high end skill in and of itself.
The 2nd skater is instructed to time their rush to the net—don’t be too far ahead or behind the 1st skater—and shoot to score with their head up.
After making their sauce pass, the 1st skater is instructed to slightly delay and follow the shooter to the net, receiving a 2nd puck from coach for a shot.
