Forward and Backward Crossover Skill Drill
Forward and Backward Crossover Skill Drill
This drill combines several skating and puck skills into one continuous sequence.
The player accelerates to the far side of the cones, pivots backward, uses backward crossovers, then opens up and escapes to collect a puck. From there, they use forward crossovers around the cones before faking inside and moving outside.
In this right-handed example, the puck sequence is forehand under the stick, backhand under, then backhand under again. The player finishes by attacking the net and using a pull-in shot around the obstacle to change the shooting angle.
This is a useful way to connect forward and backward crossovers, escapes, tight turns, soft puck touches, and shooting into one drill. The goal is to transition smoothly between each skill while preparing to attack and create a better shooting lane.
