Neutral Zone Regroup to Deception Rush Finish
Neutral Zone Regroup to Deception Rush Finish
This drill blends puck retrieval, clean regroup habits, timing through the neutral zone, and agility and deception off the rush.
Version 1:
Player 1 retrieves a loose puck, opens up, and goes D-to-D to simulate a quick regroup.
Player 2 immediately moves it to Player 3, who mirrors the puck with proper timing and spacing.
From there, the rush player (player 3) attacks with a fake inside → drive outside, adds a soft touch through a stick (simulating a defender’s stick), then finishes with a second deception move (fake outside → cut inside) into a shot.
Version 2:
Instead of a loose puck retrieval, the first player receives a direct pass to their outside edge (backhand for lefties, forehand for righties) to challenge puck control and body positioning. Same regroup sequence.
On entry, the rush player attacks with inside-out deception and a soft touch through the first stick. A second stick forces a change of angle release — pull-in, fake shot push, or lateral adjustment to create a shooting lane.
Skills Emphasized:
- Clean D-to-D execution
- Neutral zone timing & spacing
- Selling fakes
- Soft hands through sticks
- Changing shooting angles
Regroup with purpose. Attack with deception. Finish with intent.
