Stickhandling with a hand isolation tool
Stickhandling with a hand isolation tool
One of the best ways to develop your top hand is by removing your bottom hand’s ability to grip the stick.
Using a stickhandling tool that forces your bottom hand to only guide and slide changes everything.
Why it works:
1. Forces your top hand to control the stick
Your top hand becomes responsible for blade angle, puck control, rotation, and movement.
2. Exposes over-reliance on the bottom hand
A lot of players pull and muscle the puck with their lower arm without realizing it. This removes that crutch instantly.
3. Develops softer hands and better puck feel
You can’t squeeze the stick and force movements. You have to stay relaxed and controlled.
4. Improves stick rotation and deception
Your top hand learns how to manipulate the blade properly instead of just steering the puck.
Start slow and focus on clean, controlled touches.
If your top hand improves, your overall puckhandling improves.
